Cocktail Friday: Reverse Manhattan

This week’s cocktail is the reverse Manhattan.

I am a fan of whiskey and am more of a Manhattan girl than an Old Fashioned girl. The only thing about either of these drinks is they can be a little too strong for me. If I want the flavor of a Manhattan, but a drink that provides for a bit more longevity I flip the ingredients to make a Reverse Manhattan!

There is nothing special to making this drink, you just invert the ratios of whiskey to vermouth in the traditional Manhattan. So instead of 2 ounces of whiskey and 1 ounce of vermouth I pour 2 ounces of vermouth and just 1 ounce of whiskey and dress it up as you normally would with 2 dashes of Angostora bitters, or similar.

I started making my traditional Manhattan’s a little sweeter with a teaspoon of Luxardo maraschino liquor. It is an herbal cherry mix from Italy that adds a little something special to a drink.

As the base of the drink if vermouth, bump up your selection. I chose to use Punt e Mes to give my drink a little boost.

If you are a fan of Manhattan’s, or like whiskey, but find it to be more alcohol than you can handle, flip things around and try a Reverse Manhattan. If you want to be really fancy, toss the mix with ice and pour into a martini glass.

Cheers!

Author: Oh yes she cane!

My name is Kerry and I love swimming, hiking, working out in general, travelling, shopping, baking, and reading. Some of those loves are a bit tricky to perform thanks for my rare nerve disease- hereditary spastic paraparesis. No worries though as I have a super handy cane, hiking poles, and amazing friends that help me along the way! I hope to share with you a bit about my life, inspire you to live yours to fullest, and hopefully, if needed, motivate you to get whatever assistance will help you to do so!
